working with copies

A "copy", "floating copy", or "fragment" is a complete or partial copy of the drawing canvas which you can drag around your screen and position anywhere you want. Use copies as a kind of clipboard holding a bunch of fragments, versions, ideas that you're working with as you're building your icon.

Ways to create a copy:

  • In the editor, hit to create a copy of your entire canvas.
  • Alternatively, use the selection tool to select only a part of your canvas, then hit to create a copy of the selected area.
  • Otherwise, use the library to browse for icons; once you've selected an icon, hit to create a copy of that icon.

Ways to use a copy:

  • Drag the copy over the canvas and position it where you want it to be drawn.
  • choose a drawing mode to draw the copy in front of, behind, over the current image, or to replace the current image, or to cookie-cut it
  • click on the copy; a little menu appears. Hit to draw the copy onto the canvas
The little copy-menu offers two other actions:
  • swap exchanges the copy and the image in the canvas
  • close disposes of the copy.
Warning: all copies are lost when you navigate away from the icon editor !
