It's ridiculously easy to make animated gifs using iconfu: draw your frames in the editor and as each frame is ready, just add it to the Animator. Then just right-click and download your animated .gif!

One warning: the GIF format doesn't handle semi-transparent pixels at all well. The Animator converts transparent pixels into opaque black. If you want transparent pixels, draw them all solid white, then specify #FFFFFF as the "transparent colour" in the Animator.
